The Tuscan Dental Institute is involved in Higher Education and Continuing Education Programs for Dentists, Dental Hygienists and Paramedics.
The Institute does research to improve the oral and systemic health of people with the ambition to start from patients' problems and, through a biological study path, to return to patients with more effective solutions.
Research at the Istituto Stomatologico Toscano is both a premise and a natural fulfillment of clinical activity and has always been aimed at improving performance towards patients. The Institute's research is mainly applied, that is, aimed at finding practical and applicable solutions in the everyday clinic.
Its objective is therefore not the evolution of theoretical knowledge, but rather the transfer of theoretical knowledge into clinical protocols. For this reason it is often addressed to the world of industry and production.

For over 20 years, research has also been at the service of innovation and progress towards industry, which must draw inspiration from clinical activity for innovation and the qualitative improvement of its products. Research is not only the advancement of the scientific debate and curiosity, but also a profound participation in the process of knowledge and development of new techniques and technologies. Precisely for this reason, the Istituto Stomatologico Toscano combines experimental research with lively clinical research, carried out through the design and implementation of clinical studies thanks to the integration with a series of satellite dental centers.
research topics
The research topics developed within the Institute's mission are traceable to three main lines of research, while being open to any need for scientific investigation:
• Control of oral infection and oral microbiota
• Control of dental infection and implantation through the use of laser devices
• Post-extraction alveolus healing: from ridge preservation to immediate implantation
• Reduction of therapy times in implantology with particular reference to the immediate post-extraction positioning of the implants and their immediate loading
• Advanced technologies of bone reconstruction in odontostomatology
• Biological interactions of implant surfaces
• Relationships between oral pathologies and systemic diseases
scientific publications
Over 20 years, the Institute's research has produced a significant number of scientific publications in the main international journals of the sector with significant contributions, which have allowed some of the researchers of the Institute to position themselves at the top in the international rankings of experts in their fields of interest. The great amount of work done means that many of the Institute's researchers and clinicians are invited to present their experience and research at the main international conferences.
